There’s something incredibly glamorous about a really luxurious throw pillow. Investing in a pricy sofa or rug, while still impressive, is somehow predictable—conventional, even. Going all out with a to-die-for pillow, on the other hand, seems very heiress-y and madcap. They make us think of the sort of decor that features heavily in 1930s cinema—all-white interiors, fully stocked cocktail bars, uniformed maids standing by ready to serve endless Martinis.... no one lives that way outside of a vintage MGM film, but it’s a nice fantasy. The only person we know who comes close to epitomizing this kind of glamour is Zang Toi, the New York-based designer/bon vivant who creates gowns for stars like Eva Longoria and Patti Labelle. Inspired by his love of all things luxe, he's made these seriously plush fur-and-cashmere pillows.
The first, made from Saga Royal silver fox fur from Denmark, is backed with charcoal gray Loro Piana cashmere (Photo 2). The second is charcoal gray Loro Piana cashmere edged with Saga Royal black mink (Photo 3). And the third is charcoal gray Loro Piana cashmere with beaded medallion embroidery (inspired, Toi reveals, by the work of the Rococco painter Jean-Honoré Fragonard) (Photo 4). We can honestly report that they’re the most sexily tactile things we’ve ever touched, and, despite their rarefied materials, simple enough to look good in any décor. One their own, any one of them is a statement; as a trio, they’ll lift your entire house to a more luxurious level.
