After completing his studies in 2002 at the Design Academy Eindhoven, Maarten Baptist founded collaborative studio, WATdesign, with fellow designer Jan Habraken. When it folded in 2008, Baptist launched JOINE Office for Design. He has created delicate tableware and an extensive line of furniture as well as glassware and coat stands. Fresh, organic shapes permeate Baptist’s work, which has been called playful, imaginative and unique. The designer, whose products are part of the permanent collection of MOMA San Francisco and Cooper Hewitt New York, was awarded a Red Dot Award in 2010 for his Single Sofa. Dutch home brand Wilhelmina Collection recently enlisted Baptist to collaborate on modern yet timeless flatware collection that’s sleek and incredibly easy to use.
