A newly popular ingredient is popping up in the skincare world, and it’s not exactly what you’d expect: CBD extract. You’ve likely been hearing about CBD-infused products, but what exactly is this ingredient? Whole-plant CBD extract comes from hemp plants, and it’s free of THC. That means you can experience its lauded benefits without any psychoactive effects.

Research into CBD is still new, but the results have been promising so far. While we most often hear about the benefits of ingesting CBD, such as improvements in anxiety and depression, its topical use is also believed to offer an array of positive effects, most notably for its anti-inflammatory properties.

The lowdown

To get the inside scoop on the rise of CBD in skincare, we spoke with the team at L’eela. L’eela, founded by Lisa Richards and Amy Andrle, is known for their luxury hemp-derived CBD skincare options, which are made from organic, sustainable ingredients. Thanks to the whole-plant extract, their products combine “anti‐inflammatory and hydrating properties.”

Some evidence even suggests that CBD “may also boast antibacterial, antispasmodic, and analgesic properties” and provide antioxidants, such as vitamins C and E, and amino and fatty acids. That means you may experience benefits ranging from improved skin tone to cellular regeneration.

The products

As it turns out, you can find all kinds of CBD beauty products utilizing this ingredient’s benefits, and they work on everything from your hair to your skin. And, because of their anti-inflammatory properties, these beauty products are believed to help with common skin problems, like acne and eczema.

CBD is great for everyday use, too. L’eela, for example, makes a hydrating oil you can use basically anywhere: your body, face, and even hair. Not only is it hydrating, but it also helps protect you against free radicals.

These hydrating powers also make CBD-infused products a great choice for daily lotions and moisturizers—especially in these colder months. In fact, there’s even CBD-infused hair conditioner out there, so both your scalp and your hair can share the benefits.
