We always look forward to the changing of seasons with great anticipation, and never more so than when summer gives way to autumn. The newly crisp weather, gorgeous fall foliage and impending holidays lend an air of cheerful possibility to everything we do—and the cooler temperatures mean we finally get to wear layers again (yay!).
We’re especially excited this season, having discovered the Fur Collar with Chains created by New York designer, Shelly Steffee, who counts Erin Wasson, Halle Berry, Jessica Szohr, Bridget Moynahan and Michelle Pfeiffer among fans of her edgy/elegant sportswear collection.
Crafted out of Toscana fur in black or champagne, the tough luxe asymmetrical hem collar nods to the zibellino (a jewel-trimmed fur scarf popular in the 15th and 16th century) but has been modernized for 21st century tastes. Each collar is individually cut by hand in Steffee’s Meatpacking District studio to make the most of the specific patterns of the fur, then finished with antique brass chains that serve to anchor the fur and add an extra dash of glamour to everything you pair it with. And we really do mean everything, as this clever day-to-night accessory looks as great with your favorite jeans and cardigan as it does tossed over a slinky little cocktail frock or a wooly winter coat.
“[I realized that] this fur piece is a really useful piece beyond a season,” Steffee said of her own big aha! when designing the collar. “It became transitional and stayed relevant through many seasons; it really hit the sweet spot.”
Even better: the chains are removable, so you can pair them with jewelry you already own. Two accessories for the price of one? Now that really is sweet.
