Name: Taryn Rose, M.D.
Expertise: Footwear and accessories designer, orthopedic surgeon
Location: Los Angeles

Interests: Fashion, home design, skiing, music, dancing, science, medicine.

Background: I’m an orthopedic surgeon turned shoe designer. I’m currently on the air at Home Shopping Network with a collection called High Heel Power and I’ve created an exclusive collection for Neiman Marcus called Haute Footure.

Why did you curate La Pochette and what do you love about it? I’m a mother of three young children and I run a company which involves a lot of travel so I’m always looking for chic products that function well in my busy life. The Pochette by Thalé Blanc is so convenient because it keeps my phone right next to my hip so I never have to dig for it in my Birkin or Chanel tote. It's lightweight and has a ring for my keys and sunglasses and a sliver of a pocket for a credit card and cash, so when I'm running quick errands I can leave my big bag behind and move efficiently. The beautiful chain makes it look like I'm wearing jewelry and not just some boring pocket.

Favorite meal: One at Matsuhisa in Beverly Hills.

Recent purchase: A Valentino leather dress that I wear everywhere.

Hidden talent: I'm funnier than most people think.

Book/film recommendation: Right now must see: Black Swan, The King's Speech, The Fighter. Some all time favorites: Cinema Paradiso, The English Patient, The Hurt Locker. Book: The Five Love Languages.

Restaurant recommendation: Jules Verne by Alain Ducasse at the top of the Eiffel Tower is a fantastic experience with great food. Matsuhisa in Beverly Hills, Jean Georges in New York or any hole-in-the-wall wherever you travel.

If I had $20, I'd...: Buy a cup of coffee at Urth Caffé and read a magazine for the afternoon.

Transformative travel experience: Kenya on safari. It felt good to be reminded that we are quite insignificant in the big scheme of things.

Favorite neighborhood: The rue St. Honore in Paris, Soho and Tribeca in New York, Beverly Hills Flats (where I live), Roppongi in Tokyo, Ubud in Bali.

Dream holiday: Anywhere with a great lover.

If I could solve one problem, it would be: Poverty.

I wish people cared more about: Personal responsibility.

Recent big aha!: Dating is fun when you don't want to get married.

The world would be a better place if: People were not oppressed by violence and war.
