Guy Laliberté is the world’s first private space explorer to publish a book documenting his experience in space, featuring unforgettable photographs of Earth as seen from the International Space Station. Captivated by the beauty of the surface of the Earth, Laliberté’s evocative photos show the colors and textures only visible from 220 miles away: Deserts resemble contemporary abstract paintings, cities rise up like mini mountain ranges, and faces and figures are revealed in nature.Laliberté dedicated his personal spaceflight to raising awareness about water issues facing humankind, making his the first, in his own words, “poetic social mission” in space. Proceeds from book sales will go to Laliberté’s One Drop foundation, a nonprofit organization created to fight poverty worldwide by ensuring that everyone around the planet has access to water, now and in the future. For the Artist Edition offered at CAN $7,000 / US$7,000 / €5,000 / £4,500, an amount of CAN $4,500 (US$4,500 / €3,148 / £2,949) will be given to One Drop as a charitable donation. An accordionist, stilt walker, and fire eater, Guy Laliberté founded Cirque du Soleil, Québec’s first internationally renowned circus, with the support of a small group of colleagues. A bold visionary, Laliberté recognized and cultivated the talents of the street performers from the Fête Foraine de Baie-Saint-Paul.Laliberté was the first to orchestrate the marriage of cultures and artistic and acrobatic disciplines that is the hallmark of Cirque du Soleil. Since 1984 he has guided the creative team through the development of every show. Today Cirque du Soleil is an international operation, as much in terms of its makeup as in the scope of its activities and influence. Laliberté now heads an organization with activities on five continents.
