Fire & Hide is more than a collection, it represents a whole new kind of luxury.
Caring for the decommissioned fire-hose elements of your Fire & Hide piece is very straightforward. Fire-hose is a high grade synthetic rubber. Keep it out of direct sunlight, wipe clean with a damp cloth if it gets dirty and spot clean any lining, also with a damp cloth. ? ?The rescued leather elements of your piece are a little trickier. First, try to keep your item dry and away from sources of heat. Dust occasionally with a dry cloth. If needed use leather soap and wipe gently with a dry towel. Clean and condition your ?item as needed? using high-quality leather conditioner. Leather can dry out over time and conditioning your piece will ensure it remains soft and flexible. It is always advisable to test your cleaner and conditioner in a small, inconspicuous spot first.
Design traditionally begins with an idea, for Elvis & Kresse, design begins with a problem. It is the material and the scale of the problem which dictate what we will make and how we make it. In the case of the hose, we scrubbed away the soot and grease that builds up after 25 years of active duty and discovered a truly remarkable, truly green textile. We wanted to honour this tough, life saving material, hence our focus on quality craftsmanship and classic, timeless design. We build as much value as we can into each piece and style them for use beyond single seasons. All Elvis & Kresse products are hand-made and unique.
The Fire & Hide Tote combines rescued leather and decommissioned fire hose and is lined with reclaimed parachute silk. A perfect day bag due to its size and weight, this shoulder or hand bag can accommodate some of the smaller laptops, an iPad, or simply your daily essentials. The bag has a zip across the top, for a tidy, secure finish and has 2 internal pockets, one with a zip closure. Colourful, beautiful, timeless.
Our commitment to rescuing British fire hoses has not changed, the trim, handles and internal detailing of the Fire & Hide range are all made from genuine decommissioned fire-hose. But fire hose was just the beginning of our story. Each year, 800,000 tonnes of beautiful leather ends up on the cutting room floor. Our leather partners, the best of British luxury, cherish their hides and the waste they produce is in small seemingly unusable pieces. In order to rescue these fragments we developed a modular approach. We created three shapes that interlock to create whole new hides. Each shape is individually cut before we lovingly hand weave them together, piece by piece, creating a strong, beautiful and tactile new material.
