Travel diary: The Faberge Eggs. Date: 8th of June 2015. Location: St Petersburg, Russia. Excerpt: "Discovering bits and pieces of St Petersburg was as exciting and mind-blowing as discovering the surprise hidden in a new Faberge egg at each glance. The city was golden, full of colours and light. When I passed by Saints Peter and Paul Cathedral, I couldn’t but think of the tragic story of the Grand Duchess Anastasia and her family. Nonetheless, I found it charming that the first and most famous egg created is the one made for the Russian Tsar Alexander III as an Easter gift to his wife Maria. From its imperialistic history to its folklore and distinctive artistic style, I felt inspired by the cultural richness and the depth of this wonderful city. As a tribute to the imperial family, "Romanov"'s artwork depicts Anastasia and her imperial city."
