These elegant kitchen towels come from a Belgian company that has been making linen table and bed coverings, towels and cambric handkerchiefs for the past 150 years. It operated 140 looms toward the end of World War I and currently produces more than 60% of all linen coming out of Belgium. All dyes and fixatives are sourced from Germany, ensuring that the fabrics are free of heavy metals (a known carcinogen often found in lower quality materials).
Machine wash at 60 °F and dry on medium heat, which adds a "loft" to the fibers. Ironing can damage material over time. If needed, iron damp (linen is one of the few fabrics that becomes stronger when wet) and avoid sharp creasing along fold lines so as not to eventually break the threads. Dry cleaning is not recommended, as the cleaning chemicals will eventually dry out the fibers.
Belgium has been farming flax and weaving linen for centuries. (Linen can be traced back to prehistoric times.) Inherently ecological, flax requires no irrigation and produces no waste since every part of the plant is used. Linen, made from the fibers of the flax plant, is durable, lint-free, non-allergenic and stain resistant. With use, it softens and develops a natural luster.
Our linen and cotton checkered kitchen towels are lightweight yet highly absorbent, making dish drying and kitchen clean up a breeze. Also available with a red stripe.
