The olive wood handle is carefully carved from thousand-year-old trees, which are harvested under government supervision from protected forests in Spain. The olive wood handles are made from a living natural material that requires little care. Every once in a while, when the color of the wood begins to look dull, rub the handles with a few drops of oil, such as flaxseed oil.
The Felix family of Solingen, a city in Germany about 20 miles east of Düsseldorf, began blacksmithing knives back in 1790 as a complement their thriving farm. In the 1800s, Karl Gustav Felix began to focus solely on the production of knives, and he officially registered his company, Felix Solingen, with the government in 1843. Felix Solingen’s knives are forged from one piece of high carbon stainless steel, a traditional method that includes over 45 separate steps and ensures cutting efficiency as well as safety.
