Copper is an essential trace element that is naturally occurring in soil, so tools made from the metal enrich your garden and may even deter pests. Slugs and snails are repelled by copper, as the metal reacts to their secretions and transmits an electric shock, sending them away from your garden bed.
Copper does not rust or corrode, but it may develop a unique patina over time. If desired, polish the copper to return the trowel to its original sheen. Store the trowel inside in a dry area. If used and cared for correctly, it will last for many years.
Devoted gardener Travis Blandford crafts each of these trowels by hand in his Yarraville workshop, about 5 miles west of Melbourne, Australia. Blandford came across piles of copper tubes at construction sites and was inspired to find a way to re-use these materials. He collected the remnant copper and designed a line of gardening tools. Blandfored named his company Grafa, after the Old Norse word meaning “to dig.”

Handmade from a single reclaimed tube of copper, this garden trowel's pointed tip is designed to work through soils that are rocky, hard, or densely packed. The strong copper spine creates leverage while planting bulbs, removing weeds, and unearthing small rocks.
