Kaufmann Mercantile worked with a family of shoemakers from Maine to create these exclusive suede moccasins. They are patterned after the moccasins traditionally worn by the Passamaquoddy Indians, a tribe native to the eastern coast of Maine. The full grain, water-resistant suede—from Chicago's Horween Leather Company, founded in 1905—is hand-sewn with a wrapped sole. Tighten the moccasins with the brass ring closure and brass riveted straps.
We recommend that you insert a pair of cedar shoe trees in the moccasins whenever they're not being worn, as the cedar draws moisture and odor away. Keep the shoes as clean and dry as possible and use a suede brush to remove dirt. Never apply any leather oils or creams to the suede.
The shoes are made with extremely durable construction, but due to the suede outsole of the shoe, it's not recommended to walk in them on pavement for extended periods. The moccasins work well as house shoes, slippers or for camping.
Run by a father and his sons, this Maine shoemaking business has been in operation since 1964. All the moccasins and boots are handmade by seasoned shoemakers, some with over four decades of experience. Hand-fitting the shoe to the shoe-form creates a softer, more custom fit for comfortable everyday wear.
