A handsome accent on your desktop, this chrome-plated stapler emits a staple with a determined punch. The all-metal parts ensure it's sturdy and satisfying to use, efficiently fastening a stack of pages that a plastic stapler would mangle.
The staplers are made in Spain by a company that started out manufacturing revolvers. When the Great Depression hit, demand for six-shooters plummeted. The owners of the firm therefore turned their riveting and lathing skills to producing staplers that can all but shoot out a bullet.
In 1934, they perfected the full-size classic El Casco model, which has been in continuous production ever since. Just over an inch shorter in length, this smaller version fits compact desks and does the job when less staples are needed.
The chrome finish keeps the stapler from rusting, so the hinges and parts move smoothly.
If you've ever worked in an office, you're familiar with the culture of rotating thievery that happens when an irresistibly well-functioning desk stapler is at hand. Use this one as you would any stapler - just make sure to protect it from getting swiped.
The El Casco small stapler takes standard sized staples. To fill, lift the small silver knob attached to the end of the spring at the back of the stapler. Pull it up and out. Slide out the staple cartridge and press the spring-knob-mechanism back in.
The stapler has three different fastener settings, which are adjustable by pressing the rivet at the bottom of the stapler up and turning it to the desired setting.
El Casco makes these with individual parts that can be repaired or replaced, just as they did with turn-of-the-century revolvers. In other words, the stapler will be with you always.
After cutting their teeth manufacturing revolvers, Juan Solozabal Mendive and Juan Olave Bilbao, the Basque founders of El Casco, turned their skills to making desk accessories. The precision and metalwork involved with manufacturing guns translated into very good staplers. Instead of quietly fizzing out during the depression, El Casco made a name for themselves by becoming the best at their new trade. To this day, the company is owned and run by Solozabal and Olave's grandchildren.
El Casco ensures the quality of their staplers by training their own apprentices and teaching them traditional manufacturing skills. Staplers are made manually, with the components individually numbered and assembled by hand.
