Hand-sewn by a former sail maker who developed his craft for over 20 years working at a sail loft, this Dopp kit is made of the same beefy canvas used in nautical and Navy gear. It's just the kind of bag you want if you have a history of finding spilled lotions or toothpaste in your freshly unpacked suitcase. Unlike other Dopp kits made of cotton or nylon, the waxed canvas of this model is waterproofed to prevent staining. Moisture from spills should wick right off. The double stitching and thick, heavy materials are designed to endure frequent use and, over time, the surface of the bag develops a beautiful patina.
Use this bag for travel, to store grooming supplies, travel shampoos and deodorant, razor and makeup, or other small items. By its nature, waxed canvas is water repellent. It was developed for the sailing industry to create waterproof fabric for nautical equipment. The only advice from the manufacturer is not to throw it in a washing machine. Apply a damp cloth to anything spilled on it. If you stain it with a liquid, the stain should wick right off.
The maker, Craig, sources his materials locally and from within the U.S. whenever possible. His YKK zippers are from New York. His canvas is a product of Fairfield Textiles in New Jersey. He focuses on materials that are simple and basic that will withstand the test of time.
