Use these cast brass trays individually to store small items, or arrange several together to create a unique table centerpiece.e.
The trays will gradually change in color over the years due to oxidization, and a green patina may appear on the surface. This is neither toxic nor harmful, and you may prefer the subtle antique appearance. If not, you can clean the trays by rubbing them with a soft cloth moistened in a solution of equal parts vinegar and salt. Wash the trays with a dishwashing detergent, then rinse with water and dry completely.
These trays were designed by Oji Masanori, a Japanese designer who has received numerous awards for his household objects, and cast in a brass foundry established in 1897 in southwestern Japan. To create the trays, molds are first made out of hardened, compacted sand. Melted brass reaching temperatures of 2,012 °F (1,100 °C) is poured into the finished sand molds. The molds are then cracked and broken in order to remove the cast brass trays. A final step of filing and crude sanding creates a semi-smooth and unique surface.
Keep track of your jewelry or organize your stationery supplies with these solid brass trays. Molten brass is poured into hardened sand molds in a legendary Japanese foundry. The upper face of the trays are finished with the unique texture of the sand casting surface.
