A collaborative effort between Kaufmann Mercantile and Brooklyn-based denim repair shop Kill Devil Hill, this apron was designed to help keep your work surfaces clean without the clutter of having to leave towels lying around.?The body of the apron is cut and sewn from cotton duck ticking, a medium weight fabric that’s sturdy but still pliable. With an adjustable cotton-canvas neck strap and two waist ties, the body can be folded and used as a half-apron just as easily as it can be worn at full length. The detachable cotton muslin mess towel in front is fastened by a row of five natural tree seed buttons, leaving a handsome embellishment once the cloth is removed. No pockets means nothing to hold you down, making this piece particularly easy to throw on and take off in a hurry.?While created with baking or cooking in mind, you can use this versatile apron outside the kitchen, such as by the grill, or anywhere else you think things might get a bit messy. Wipe your hands and just keep on going.
As you work, use the attached muslin cloth to dry your hands. This cloth can be removed as you go to wipe down counters and clean spills, then either reattached to the apron or tossed in the laundry.?Like all Kill Devil Hill aprons, this piece was constructed with a nod to busy restaurant kitchens, so the fabric has been pre-shrunk and is ready to be washed on high heat and thrown into the dryer.
After working as a decorative painter, luxury store display window designer, hot rod shop owner and gas station attendant, Mary Brockman opened Kill Devil Hill in Brooklyn, New York, in 2008.?This apron is handmade from start to finish in the back of KDH’s storefront on Franklin Avenue, Greenpoint. Once the ticking is delivered, it’s washed and dried on high heat so you don't have to baby your apron. Next the fabric is cut, then ironed and finally all the pieces are stitched together on Mary’s trusty Singer sewing machine.
Wear it while cooking, cleaning or gardening. Features removable cotton muslin towel. An exclusive collaboration between Kill Devil Hill and Kaufmann Mercantile. Hand-sewn in Brooklyn. Towels available separately for purchase. (more info)
