In 1910, when company founder John Boultbee Brooks filed two patents related to improvements on satchels and rucksacks, he set the standard for a product that guaranteed equal distribution of weight and improved equilibrium while biking. Today, having been in the cycling goods business for over 100 years, the Brooks difference remains in their unyielding commitment to comfort, quality and stability.
Bearing these exacting standards to fruition, this bag features padded, leather-covered inserts at the inner face that rest between you and its contents, providing protection through any unforeseen bumps in the road. Once adjusted to the desired length, the innovative shoulder belt can easily be worn either loose while walking or secured snugly around the waist while biking, allowing for enhanced harmony between bag and rider.
Roomy enough to fit a laptop and charger, water bottle, bike lock, a book or two and maybe even a cardigan, the interior pocket fastens shut with an invisible magnetic closure. Nestled underneath this flap you’ll find a neat quartet of pockets, allowing for easy-access storage of a notebook, phone, pen and pencil, as well as a zippered “passport” pocket for stowing important papers and all your more sensitive documents.
After loading the bag with your daily necessities, sling the strap diagonally across your shoulders and adjust it to the appropriate length for your body type. Next, bring the free ends of the strap around your waist and lock them together using the distinctive "Sam Brown"? fixing. The bag is now secured to your person and you may ride forth without fear of any sudden swinging or unwanted shifting of weight.
If necessary, wipe this bag clean using mild soap and water. Applying leather conditioner to the bag's straps every so often will help them stay supple and strong.
John Boultbee Brooks settled in Birmingham, England in 1865. Just one year later, this enterprising gentleman had established a flourishing business producing horse harnesses and other leather goods on Great Charles Street under the name JB Brooks & Co.
Necessity, as they say, is the mother of invention, and after weathering one too many uncomfortable commutes on an unyielding wooden bicycle seat, Brooks set about creating his own version in the same thick, beautiful leather he used for his harnesses. Since filing its first leather bicycle saddle patent in 1882, the Brooks company name has become synonymous with quality in the field of handcrafted leather and canvas goods and accessories for the modern cyclist.
At the Brooks factory in Smethwick, traditional leather working techniques and manufacturing skills are passed down from generation to generation, while some machinery dates back as far as the 1940s and 1950s.
