The coins date back to 103-76 BC and were issued by the Jewish King Alexander Janneus. The coin's history is unique and has a great significance for Christians around the world. It’s mentioned twice in the Bible – in a story about Jesus, set near the temple. He saw many people contributing expensive coins to the temple treasury; he then saw a poor widow giving two coins like the ones in these pendants. The coins were the cheapest money of the time. Jesus turned to his followers saying that the widow had gave much more than all the rich people, as she gave out of her poverty – maybe all she had, while the others were rich people, that gave out of their wealth.
