Pashmina shawls are only made with the most superior handspun yarn that is then hand-woven with the delicate hand embroidery of Kashmir. The artisans who make these live and work in very severe climatic conditions with not much power for light, and have learnt this art from generation to generation. The inspiration of these designs comes from the mughal miniature painting which is strewened with floral art called the buta (meaning 'bud' or 'flower') or bel (meaning 'branch'). What you see are most abstract versions of these motifs in thread form.
