These crisp, traditional, hand-drawn and dyed cloud pattern batiks are from Java, Indonesia. The Cloud (Mega Mendung) pattern is believed to have been introduced in Java by Chinese settlers who arrived in Cirebon (on the north coast of Java), Indonesia in the 16th and 17th centuries. The cloud pattern—suggesting fertility and life—was found on ceramics and textiles brought with them to Indonesia. The pillow covers are batik on soft cotton, featuring color gradations in the clouds ranging from light to deep.
