This crisp, traditional, hand-drawn and dyed cloud pattern batik is from Java, Indonesia. The Cloud (Mega Mendung) pattern is believed to have been introduced in Java by Chinese settlers who arrived in Cirebon (on the north coast of Java), Indonesia in the 16th and 17th centuries. The cloud pattern, suggesting fertility and life, was found on ceramics and textiles brought with them to Indonesia. The pillow covers are batik on soft cotton. The color gradations in the clouds range from light aqua to deep olive, on a natural cotton background, extending across the front and back.
Made in Indonesia.
