This crisp, traditional, hand-drawn and dyed cloud pattern batik is from Java, Indonesia. The Cloud (Mega Mendung) pattern is believed to have been introduced in Java by Chinese settlers who arrived in Cirebon (on the north coast of Java), Indonesia in the 16th and 17th centuries. The cloud pattern, suggesting fertility and life, was found on ceramics and textiles brought with them to Indonesia. Our pillows are hand-drawn and dyed batik on soft cotton with four finely gradated shades of emerald and a white outline. The pattern covers the front with a solid emerald on the back. The covers are sewn by a family enterprise in Lancaster, PA .
