We’ve always liked the René Magritte painting of the pipe with the slogan ceci n’est pas une pipe. His point was that what you see is not necessarily what you get. Like this BOOK, which, despite its hand-stitched spine and distinguished looking linen cover, isn’t a book at all but an ingeniously disguised iPad cover.
It all starts with designer Scott Nedrelow, who sends the sustainable linen exteriors, created in his Minneapolis studio, to a local bookbinder who mounts the fabric on book board. Enter into the mix a local wood worker to create the interior spine, then all pieces are returned to Nedrelow's studio where the BOOK is put together by hand. The result is a clever, lightweight wool felt-lined case for your iPad in the guise of a weighty tome, with the legend "THIS IS NOT A BOOK" running down its stately spine. Which brings us to another good point: You can’t judge a BOOK by its cover.
