If you could put the essence of Paris, the most romantic city in the world, in a bottle, what would it smell like? What about the rich history and Cool Britannia allure of London? Or Tokyo’s exotic minimalism?
Edouard Roschi and Fabrice Penot of the cult-following perfumery Le Labo thought long and hard about these cities before formulating the evocative scents that pay homage to them. Like all of Le Labo’s scents, these perfumes are meant for both men and women, as the scents are so unique that they go beyond gender. They were also adamant that these olfactory love letters would only be available the Le Labo flagship store in its respective city. But – they have now made a special exception for us. For the next 10 days, all three scents will be sold at AHAlife. No long-haul flight, no security check, no jet lag—just click and wait for your city scent of choice to arrive on your doorstep.
So what does Paris smell like? Vanille 44, the Le Labo fragrance that corresponds to the City of Light, is a sexy, straw-colored, amber-incense scent that’s both smoky and sweet; it’s vanilla in disguise, you sense it’s there but it’s not obvious. Poivre 23, a.k.a. London, is a warm embrace of spicy oriental notes that temper pepper with patchouli and sandalwood. And Gaiac 10, the crystal clear embodiment of Tokyo – where subtle and linear scents are preferred- is a smoky and elegant blend of four different musks with woody notes (gaiac is a hard wood with a subtle but profound scent) and hints of cedar and incense.
Like all of Le Labo’s creations, each of these perfumes is made to order from top-notch ingredients and comes with a customized label that includes the wearer’s name. Uncapping one is like taking a lightning fast trip to the city that inspired it. And having all three on your dressing table is the scent equivalent of a passport full of memories.
