Currently operating out of Detroit, Jack Craig looks to exist in the stratospheres of craft, design and industry. In May 2012, and during NY design week, Mondo Collection introduced Jack Craig the plugged stool to the local market. Jack’s design was quickly recognized by designers and editors and was featured in the New York Times design section.
The plugged stool is made of industrial PVC water mains stripped of their previous function and assigned new ones. Heated, bent, and manipulated by hand, the plastic is humanized through distortion from its highly-machined geometry. The simple gestures of stretching or folding is all that is afforded by the immediacy of the process and the limits of one-man production.
