Doo.Ri Chung is a master of the drape (if you’re not familiar with the New York-based fashion star’s work, we’re talking about dresses, not curtains). The 2006 Vogue/CFDA Fashion Fund winner’s cunning jersey frocks, which have an uncanny ability to flatter every woman who puts one on, have a cult following. Ideally, we’d live in one of them. But as delightful as that sounds, it’s not entirely practical. Though we like to think of ourselves as Grace Kelly in To Catch a Thief, we spend a lot of time in jeans and a t-shirt.
Despite the fact that she’s a world famous designer, so does Chung. But, because she’s a world famous designer, she doesn’t wear just any old T-shirt. When Chung wears a tee, it’s one with a difference, like this cool drape-front tunic with an abstract floral print (which she chose for its resemblance to our logo). Chung kindly agreed to make a limited number just for us, which means that even if you’re a jeans-and-t-shirt sort of girl, you can work some of her sleek elegance into your look. Thanks, Doo-Ri!
“When I purchase clothes I look for a subversion of the classics,” says Chung, who gives us a peek into her creative process—and the making of this tee—in the video, at right. “It could be a great blazer with an exaggerated collar or denim jeans with an elongated proportion. This is what I wanted to do with the classic white tee—give it a slightly subversive take.” Mission accomplished. An AHAlife exclusive.
