Like us, David Andersson and Martin Lasson of Stockholm-based David & Martin are very particular about jewelry. But whereas we’re particular about the jewelry we wear, they’re particular about the jewelry they design. Which makes us an ideal match. “We try to keep to our own track, which means that we try to continue doing jewelry in our way—which is to say, feminine but not ‘pretty,’” says Andersson, who designed furniture before turning to fashion. “I think it’s easy to find pretty jewelry but quite hard to find more bold pieces, especially at a price that’s ok for most people.”
The duo’s inspirations range from David Bowie and the fashion photographs of Guy Bourdain to Egyptian art and Scandinavian design, and they’ve collaborated with everyone from Karl Lagerfeld to H&M. How’s that for versatility?
This 18k gold-plated, adjustable, brass Folded Cuff bracelet was made especially for AHAlife. They began by making 20-odd models out of different types of folded paper then developed five or six prototypes in sheet metal before finalizing the design. Simple but striking, it’s the kind of thing we can imagine wearing with everything from a bikini to an evening gown and feeling perfectly dressed every time. As Andersson says, “We want the women who wear our jewelry to feel confident, strong and feminine and we hope our design can help them to achieve that feeling!” An AHAlife exclusive.
