After watching Gentlemen Prefer Blondes recently, we found ourselves humming “Diamonds Are a Girl’s Best Friend.” Who doesn’t like a little sparkle? But unlike poor Lorelei, we don’t have to rely on a man to present us with our rocks—we can go out and buy our own. Being independent-minded girls, we don’t want to settle for anything too conventional.
Therein lies the appeal of this yellow sapphire- and diamond-studded claw pendant from designer (and AHAlife curator), Anna Sheffield, creator of Bing Bang costume jewelry, a namesake fine jewelry collection, and limited-edition collections for Cole Haan, Marc Jacobs, Target and 3.1 Phillip Lim, among others. Part of her Anna Sheffield La Chasse line, the diamond claw is very modern-day Diana, goddess of the hunt (who strikes us as just the kind of girl who would go out and get her own jewels). The necklace “is designed around the theme of the hunt as it relates to flora and, in this case, fauna,” says Sheffield. “The hooves and claws symbolize the kind of benevolent and fierce qualities of the chase. And the jewelry is a means to impart that magical interaction between these two elements.”
Inspired by an actual wolf’s claw Sheffield found and cast in silver—she’s obsessed with talismans—the necklace is ingeniously constructed with double-sided diamonds and yellow sapphires (a combination designed exclusively for AHAlife) so you can wear it facing either way, and it hangs from several layers of chains, which were adjusted link by link to achieve the proper balance. Gorgeous and a little fierce, it’s the perfect antidote to predictable old solitaires. All we know is, we've worn our pendant nonstop since special ordering it last month. An AHAlife exclusive.
