Although there’s certainly a time and a place for serious jewelry, sometimes we just want a handful of rings to adorn our fingers—and we don’t want to spend a month’s salary on them. That’s when we reach for these light-catching wire-wrapped quartz rings by designer An Dao, which are a great way to add color to an outfit.
Druzy quartz is renowned for its color and sparkle. It’s formed when ground water carries dissolved silica into the porous area of rocks. Rapid cooling occurs, which causes tiny crystals to form on top of previously deposited materials.
Our samples range in tone from a deep turquoise to an amber-streaked cream, but each stone is unique. The rings also come in two styles; as single stones or double stones with one smaller quartz on top or wrapped inside a larger one. Dao makes each ring by hand, wrapping silver or gold-filled wire around each stone six times before pulling it through the center of the stone and securing it. Depending on whether the quartz is open in the middle, she adds a smaller quartz to complete the design.
After working for years in the fashion and beauty industries, Dao launched her line while undergoing treatment for breast cancer and awaiting heart surgery. “I encourage everyone to not give up on their dreams even if they go through a hard time in life. Live it up!” she says.
