About Tess Giberson

If you’re like us, you love leggings.  They’re comfortable, versatile and, when paired with the right top and accessories, super chic.  But if you’re like us, you may also be suffering from a touch of Fashion Fatigue, that unfortunate syndrome that sets in when everyone else on the planet adopts your personal favorite item of clothing as their own.  Such is the case with leggings.  We still love them, but we hate that everyone else loves them, too.

So imagine our delight when we discovered these uber-cool Long Knit Mesh Leggings from New York designer Tess Giberson. A new take on the classic, Giberson’s version is rendered in a luxurious silk/wool blend in two fresh styles: an all-over mesh pattern—just the thing when you want to channel your inner rock star—or a solid knit with a discreetly seductive mesh stripe running up the side. Both have extra long legs that are meant to be worn scrunched around the ankle.

While sketching the styles in different proportions, Giberson simultaneously developed stitches (which she knit and crocheted by hand) and experimented with various yarns to see what might work best before developing her final prototypes, which are available in all-over mesh (in black and grey) or side mesh (in fuchsia and wheat).  Both look great worn with a structured blazer, as shown, or under a long shirt or chunky sweater.

But then reinventing tried-and-true favorites is something that Giberson, who worked at Calvin Klein and TSE before starting her own line, has mastered.  When asked what inspired her to reimagine the traditional legging, she told us it’s all about “designing a special yet wearable piece— something that can be worn every day but adds an interesting detail to any outfit.”

Done and done.
