About Serpui Marie

In Brazil, the beach is never far away. If not geographically, then at least in the mind of its people. Case in point: these stunning, one-of-a-kind mother-of-pearl shell minaudieres from the Brazilian designer Serpui Marie, which seem to embody the shimmering beauty of sun, sea and sand. “Brazil is a very tropical country,” she says. “We love the beach. I wanted to bring an element from the beach, and make it glamorous.” And she certainly succeeded, as these exquisitely crafted bags are carried by world class glamazons like Madonna, Jennifer Aniston and—naturally—Gisele Bündchen.

The design process behind these little gems makes them even more special. The one-of-a-kind minaudieres are entirely handmade in Serpui’s São Paulo atelier, where she creates a mosaic inlay of mother-of-pearl shells that are collected in Brazil and Asia. “The clutches are made by attaching small pieces of the sea shells together, and layering them on top of the resin base,” she says. “It’s a very delicate, handcrafted process.”
