Name: Laura Feinstein
Expertise: Social Media/ Fashion/ Contemporary European History
Location: Brooklyn, NY

Interests: Writing, Blogging, Exploring, Traveling, Learning New Things, Scandinavian Design

Background: I went to school for art and European history, but later moved to the digital space when I came to New York. I like to think that my mixed background gives me a new perspective on this growing field.

Why did you curate the adhesive wall calendar by Ferm Living and what do you love about it? When I'm not writing for PSFK, or working with various clients on digital strategy, I help with the films and concert at Scandinavia House, The Nordic Cultural Center in America. Through this work I've strengthened my already deep love of Scandinavian Design, so when I found this product it really resonated with me. Practical, simple, Nordic, aesthetically pleasing- I can already picture it in my kitchen!

Favorite meal: Dumplings! I really can't get enough of them and every culture seems to have them, from pierogis to empanadas, they're a global treat.

Recent purchase: A set of Marimekko mugs for my new apartment. They're so bright and cheery, they make mornings just that much better.

Hidden talent: I absolutely love to watercolor. When I was in school for my senior project I created a graphic novel in all watercolor- I think it was and always will be my most ambitious project.

Book/film recommendation: This past summer I was on a huge Anaïs Nin kick, so I recommend her first diary if you want to get swept up in the romance of pre-war bohemian Paris. Also, rent Henry and June for the abridged version.

Restaurant recommendation: Vanessa's Dumplings on the Lower East Side. Whenever anyone new moves to NYC this is the first place I recommend. Everything on the menu is below $5, so you can come with a big group and share some delicious dim sum.

If I had $20, I’d… : Take someone with me to a movie at the Brooklyn Academy of Music. They always have something great playing, and the old theatre is one of the great wonders of Brooklyn.

Transformative travel experience: Seeing the Caves of Petra in Jordan to be sure. They're just so ancient and beautiful, it really puts life into perspective.

Favorite neighborhood: I'd say Friedrichshain in Berlin, but I haven't been there in two years so it might have changed. But Berlin is an amazing place to visit….nothing can compare to your first trip. Also my neighborhood, Greenpoint, it's like a mini trip to Krakow sans the 10 hour flight.

Dream holiday: I just watched Black Orpheus and loved it, so I'm thinking this might mean a trip to Rio for Carnivale.

If I could solve one problem, it would be: Health Care in the US. Travel has taught me just how much we're really missing out on in term of affordable coverage.

I wish people cared more about: Learning about the world around them. There's so much to know, it's endless!

Recent big aha!: How much the internet is changing life everyday. Courtesy of Social Media Week of course.

The world would be a better place if: More people listened to their hearts. Cheesy, I know.
