Why did you curate Nick Munro's Trombone Barware and what do you love about it? English design has always had a great impact on me. Nick’s work covers a great deal of points I find important and interesting, including substance and quality. I like the way Nick takes items out of context and creates a new product. He takes an element of a trombone and makes a cocktail shaker out of it or a bicycle pump & it becomes a coffee press.
Favorite meal: Involves my cooking for family and friends. It’s not the meal that I cook but the time of the meal that brings me the greatest pleasure. That time is when the talking stops and people are overwhelmed by the joy of being together over the meal I have prepared.
Recent purchase: A Ford F-150 truck. My wife hates it.
Hidden talent: I have the ability to tell when people have been naughty or nice.
Book/film recommendation: Peacock, a film by Michael Lander, and the entire library of films by Sofia Coppola.
Restaurant recommendation: Greenhouse Tavern, Cleveland, Ohio. Chef Sawyer has done something I never thought I would experience outside of France: He has recreated the traditional dish steak tartare and added his own signature to it. The best steak tartare is not only in France but in the Rust Belt.
If I had $20, I’d… : Buy Pints. Always Pints.
Transformative travel experience: I’ve been all over the world but I always feel more greatly expanded every time I travel from coast to coast in America.
Favorite neighborhood: Any downtown anywhere or anywhere below Fourteenth Street.
Dream holiday: The Lake District, England, my posse and a lot of red wine.
If I could solve one problem, it would be: How to remain a night owl and work through the magic hours, my creative time, and still be able to wake up at the crack of dawn and enjoy the beauty of the morning.
I wish people cared more about: Caring about people.
Recent big aha!: I can grow the food I love to eat.
The world would be a better place if: We figured out how to use the percentage of the brain we don’t use.
