Expertise: Editor-in-Chief of Gotham and Hamptons Magazines, on-air fashion and lifestyle expert, wife and mom.
Interests: Art, fashion, reading, travel, decorating, and the most important spending time with my husband and daughter.
Background: I was born in NYC and went to The Hewitt School and Tulane University. My career in magazines began in the Fashion and Accessories department at Vogue, first as Assistant Accessories Editor and then Accessories Editor. I then moved to O, The Oprah Magazine and assumed the role of Senior Accessories Editor. Before taking over as Editor-in-Chief of Gotham and Hamptons, I was Fashion & Accessories Director for all Niche Media titles. I’m also an on-air fashion and lifestyle expert and regularly appear on LX TV, the Today Show, Good Day New York, News 12 and E!.
Why did you curate the custom note pads and note cards from Connor Stationery ? To me the only thing more elegant than receiving a handwritten note is when it comes on one of Connor's unique and elegant designs. The shop is the epitome of chic and I'm delighted the company has created a readymade line. What's more, the dove grey decorative boxes with grosgrain ribbon look simply charming when stacked on my desk.
Favorite meal: Oysters with caviar at Milos Estiatorio in NYC (you go up to the stunning seafood counter and pick what you like), frogs legs with a glass of French white wine at the bar at La Grenouille, and steak tartare at Balthazar. Honestly, when I eat all the above mentioned things I then do a Cooler Cleanse – amazing, and actually started by Salma Hayek.
Recent purchase: ‘Miss Viv’ bag from Roger Viver S/S collection in camel, cream and chocolate brown leather with gold hardware - it’s very 1960’s in feeling but modern and, I think, supremely chic and elegant.
Hidden talent: Countless events, photo shoots and TV appearances later I’ve watched the talent of some fine makeup artists and can now do a pretty professional job on my own makeup. I can also wear six-inch heels for an inordinately long amount of time.
Book/film recommendation: I adored Public Speaking, Martin Scorsese’s documentary on author Fran Lebowitz, and the Leon Gast-directed documentary Smash his Camera about notorious paparazzo Ron Galella. King Leopold’s Ghost by Adam Hochschild is a great read.
Restaurant recommendation: The private dining room at the River Café in London. The food is beyond delicious and aside from the view into the open kitchen - which I love - it has this incredible glass-fronted cheese room on one wall with a variety of rare Italian cheeses.
If I had $20, I’d…: If I had $20 and some free time I would go the movies. The $20 I can scrounge up, it’s the time I can’t seem to muster.
Transformative travel experience: My husband and I did a fantastic trip to California - we went to Napa Valley and visited an incredible array of restaurants in Yountville and then went into luxurious isolation at The Post Ranch Inn in Big Sur. The duality was perfect.
Favorite neighborhood: When I’m in Paris I spend time in Le Marais on the Right Bank, and usually stay and spend the rest of my time on the Left Bank in St Germain-des-Prés, specifically near Saint-Sulpice.
Dream holiday: For my husband and I, it’s all about great, easy, warm weather getaways. We’re going to the new St. Regis Bahia Beach Resort in Puerto Rico for my birthday. I love Jean-Georges Vongerichten’s food and he just opened an incredible restaurant there named Fern.
If I could solve one problem, it would be: Providing clean and safe drinking water for everyone on this planet. It is unfathomable to me that over one billion people on this earth in largely developing nations are without this very basic necessity. To them, clean water is a luxury. Scott Harrison’s Charity:Water is changing that and I applaud his work.
I wish people cared more about: Philanthropy. I truly respect what Charitybuzz is doing. They raise funds for charities around the globe through creative, exclusive and fun online auctions. They bring together nonprofits and for-profit business in a smart way that makes fundraising fresh, socially relevant and, most importantly, collaborative. Charitybuzz works with luxury brands to design coveted auction lots that the audience gets to bid on online. I donated a day with myself during New York Fashion Week to raise money for Ralph Lauren’s Pink Pony campaign. I was shocked at the number of people who bid on me! But how could I say no to that. It’s creative and by offering these amazing experiences to people by bidding they are being philanthropic.
Recent big aha!: It was 3 ½ years ago but decidedly the greatest moment of clarity I have ever had was when my daughter Sadie came into this world.
The world would be a better place if: The absolutely unfair and brutal disease of cancer did not exist.
