Name: Stephen K Mack
Expertise: Freelance Apple IT Consultant
Location: New York City
Interests: Too many to list, but my top five are: good food, a great non-fiction book, being out in nature and doing nothing, learning something new and interesting about that world and being with a very small group of friends or my family.
Background: Grew up in Westchester County, NY. Was a math major in at Emory University. For many years I worked in graphic design and 3d animation. Sort of stumbled into IT consulting about 10 years ago. I live with my partner, Robert, near Madison Square Park.
Why did you curate the Energy Saving Lightbulbs and what do you love about them? Everyone complains how they can't stand the look of common CFL bulbs. What I love about the Plumen bulbs is their design embraces the unique tubular nature of the CFL technology instead of trying to mash it into the form factor of the iconic incandescent. The Plumen is the Edison bulb of the 21st century and is beautiful in its own right.
Favorite meal: Just about anything off the menu from Devi (Indian) here in NYC
Recent purchase: I just bought Portal 2 for PS3/Mac. Has to be one of the most enjoyable video games I've played in a long time.
Hidden talent: I actually am fairly versed in origami
Book/film recommendation: Sex at Dawn by Christopher Ryan & Cacilda Jethá and the film Moon.
Restaurant recommendation: Devi (Indian) here in NYC. The fact that it's the only Michelin Star Indian restaurant in the US should be all you need to know.
If I had $20, I’d… : I'll just have to wait and see where it's needed.
Transformative travel experience: My trip a number of years ago to Botswana and South Africa for safari.
Favorite neighborhood: Hard to beat the West Village on a gorgeous spring day.
Dream holiday: A solid week of my clients' technology working perfectly and not needing me.
If I could solve one problem, it would be: Our collective inefficiency at solving problems.
I wish people cared more about: Holding people accountable.
Recent big aha!: Read Sex at Dawn. ;-)
The world would be a better place if…: people wouldn't tolerate hypocrisy in themselves or others.
