Name: Caleb Ganzer
Expertise: Wine, cocktails, assorted beverages and the proper service thereof.
Location: Brooklyn, New York.
Interests: Wine, cooking, travel.
Background: Grew up in rural Illinois surrounded by infinitely more cornfields than vineyards. Fell in love with wine and gastronomy in college and have been following my taste buds ever since. Is now the sommelier at Daniel Boulud's famous New York restaurant, Daniel.
Why did you curate the All-in-one Bar Set and what do you love about it? I have to give it up, the design is sleek and it incorporates all the essential tools a home bartender could ever need to satisfy his or her friendly tipplers. I love the fact that it incorporates a juicer—freshly squeezed citrus is the key to a great cocktail.
Favorite meal: Enjoying a convivial feast in a thatched-roof hut on the side of the road near Angkor Wat, Cambodia, with my college friends and our tuk-tuk drivers.
Recent purchase: An oyster knife.
Hidden talent: Street magician—David Blain, watch your back.
Book/film recommendation: The Gleaners and I directed by Agnès Varda.
Restaurant recommendation: Sale e Pepe in Montmartre in Paris—super casual but full of passion.
If I had $20, I’d… : Drink cappuccinos all week long.
Transformative travel experience: Six months living in Paris with little to no responsibility—I highly recommend it.
Favorite neighborhood: Williamsburg, Brooklyn
Dream holiday: Sixth floor apartment in Paris, overlooking the Seine, for the spring.
If I could solve one problem, it would be: Moving away from the subsidizing of monoculture in the U.S. towards subsidizing small farms embracing culinary and agricultural diversity.
I wish people cared more about: How their food gets on their plates
Recent big aha!: You can buy steel-cut oatmeal with fresh fruit toppings at Whole Foods for $2 in the morning.
The world would be a better place if: We lived in matriarchal societies.
