Meet Karen Robinovitz
Expertise: Fashion, beauty, art, lifestyle, and all things fabulous
Interests: See expertise
Background: Former fashion/beauty/lifestyle journalist (WWD, NYT, Elle, Bazaar, Marie Claire) turned marketer turned founder of Purple Lab, a brand about double duty beauty (available on HSN), and co-founder of Digital Brand Architects, a social media agency that offers strategy/execution (with a focus on fashion/luxury) and online talent management.
Favorite meal: Yellowtail jalapeno, new style sashimi with white fish, squid pasta, and black miso cod in butter lettuce at Nobu—gets me every time. But it’s a close tie with Pure Food and Wine as I eat mostly raw.
Recent purchase: Celine leopard handbag and beige sunglasses, Nessa diamond tiger ring, Alaia wool booties (six inch heels), Charlotte Olympia multi-colored satin pumps (six inch heels). White Balenciaga Mongolian jacket, and gold Lanvin tunic with ostrich feathers and a beaded bow detail. I am bad!
Hidden talent: Spending 15 straight hours in six-inch heels without a single stumble. Break dancing, too—I was in a group in 6th grade and performed at Bar and Bat Mitzvahs with my crew.
Book/film recommendation: Book: The Hunger Games series (sci-fi fiction about love and war in an otherworldly place – I couldn’t put them down) andAutobiography: Helmut Newton (fascinating from Holocaust to fetishes). Film: The Rush documentary. I just saw it and freaked out over how good it was.
Restaurant recommendation: Bohemian, a Japanese hideaway in Noho that only seats about 12 and serves up incredible artisanal fare in a quiet, low key environment that will have you swooning. One of the best spots I’ve been to in NYC in a long, long, long time. The mushroom croquette with sea urchin is heaven and sinful at once.
If I had $20, I’d… Get a manicure with a 5 minute back rub while drying.
Transformative travel experience: Honeymoon in Bhutan, chanting with monks after a 4 hour hike up a mountain, 11,000 square-feet above sea level and being blessed by the head monk who did yoga with us.
Favorite neighborhood: The West Village, NYC where I am blessed to live.
Dream holiday: India. A three-week exploration including some serious yoga time at an ashram.
If I could solve one problem, it would be: Cancer.
I wish people cared more about: Supporting each other.
Recent big aha!: Life with an iPad.
The world would be a better place if: We could respect one another’s differences and learn from them.
