Wooden Galileo Telescope
By Molly StrattonMade with the same dimensions and focal length as Galileo’s 1609 model, this birch and metal telescope will put the moon, major planets and other celestial bodies in your view. We love the idea of seeing exactly what this great scientist and thinker saw four hundred years ago.
THE STORY
To mark the 400th anniversary of the first telescope observations of the moon and Jupiter by Galileo Galilei in 1610, the Italian optics company Palomar worked with Zoom Art designer Odoardo Fioravanti to create a replica of the telescope Galileo used. Galileo’s Telescope is directly inspired by the original, with the same dimensions, focal length and wooden construction. Palomar has extensive experience manufacturing telescope components, making this instrument not only beautiful but technically accurate.
