As far as namesakes go, the Ghurkas are stellar. Nepalese troops who fought for the British, Ghurkas are renowned for their exceptional bravery and loyalty. Inspired by their reputation (and just possibly by their snazzy uniforms), Marley Hodgson named his fledgling leather goods firm after them back in 1975. From the beginning, Hodgson knew what he wanted to make: High quality bags that evoked the patrician style of the Raj. Which is exactly what he did. The company quickly became the go to label for understated luxury among in-the-know gentlemen. When Hodgson retired several years ago—anything he designed is a collector’s item on eBay—Ghurka’s profile was briefly dimmed. But with the resurgence of interest in heritage brands, Ghurka is once again sought after by those of discerning taste. And for good reason—it’s the last American-made luxury label. Thanks to their vegetable-dyed, ultra-durable leather, meticulous craftsmanship and trend-proof design, Ghurka bags aren’t mere purchases, they’re investments. We’re offering the man’s International Wallet in black, walnut and chestnut, so named because it’s designed to hold foreign currency as well as greenbacks.
