If there’s one place we’re always up for visiting, it’s Florence. The capital of Tuscany is not only one of the most beautiful cities in the world and the cradle of the Renaissance—the Uffizi is, hands down, our favorite museum ever—it’s also got kick-ass shopping, particularly its beautifully hand-crafted leather goods. So when we saw this to-die-for suede-lined crocodile iPad cover, our first thought was, “Florence.” And sure enough, designer Jennifer Tattanelli has deep roots in the city’s traditional luxury leather goods industry. An Italian American who started her career on Seventh Avenue, she returned to Florence to take over the family business, creating leather jackets and bags that bring new meaning to the phrase “like buttah.”
Her inspiration for creating this incredibly refined piece was simple: After seeing umpteen iPad covers that were all style and no substance, she decided she could do better. And she has. Her gorgeous crocodile case comes in espresso or black (not shown) and is not only protective, but can be folded back to prop up an iPad in various positions for presentations, and includes an interior pocket for documents and business cards. And don’t think that just because croc is synonymous with elegance that it’s fragile—this stuff is tough. And if the suede lining happens to get dirty, says Tattanelli, just dust the stain with baby power and brush it with a soft brush. Style backed up with substance—we like that.
