We’ve got the perfect present for a hunter: a reindeer leather backpack from Böle, a fourth generation tannery and saddle maker in the far north of Sweden, whose clients include the Swedish Royal Family. Reindeer skin is strong, lightweight and incredibly durable. Böle prepares its leather using the ancient bark tanning technique, in which leather is cured in vats filled with bark (Böle uses spruce which gives it a very nice natural color) for nearly a year. Though this is the oldest known form of tanning, very few tanneries still use it. The backpack is a roomy carryall that will also age with grace. Inspired by outdoor life in the north of Sweden, it has wide straps and wood ribs built into the back, so it’s comfortable enough to carry all day.
