Why did you curate the Guatemalan Coffee?
"My first job ever was at Starbucks in high schools, and I've been aware of the inefficiencies of the coffee industry for awhile. For many of us, coffee is the fifth basic food group. But how much do you really know about where your cup of joe comes from? Were you aware, for example, that in Guatemala, farmers at even the most successful Fair Trade cooperatives still make less than $7 a day?
Enter Farm to Cup Coffee, an entrepreneurial venture from three java-loving Stanford Business School graduates who purchase beans directly from cooperative farmers in Antigua, Guatemala—i.e. the Napa Valley of coffee. By cutting down on the number of middlemen involved in the process, they’re tripling profits for these farmers. How’s that for a nice perk?
