Since we featured the Solid Line iPad case in October—a.k.a. the wonder gadget that turns your iPad into a laptop—it’s earned a big thumbs-up from Wired and become one of the most popular tech accessories on the market. Well, it’s now even better, and that’s partly due to us (not that we’re bragging or anything).

The latest incarnation is made from biodegradable vinyl, making it both durable and environmentally friendly. You can still get a Bluetooth silicone keyboard built in to this ultra lightweight case, but if you’ve become a touch screen wiz and don’t feel the need for one, they’re now available without keyboards, too. And, as with the original, the built-in lithium ion battery offers 90 hours of continuous use time.

But here’s where we get involved—and where things get really cool: We enlisted the talents of fashion designer Christian Joy, who creates the infamous stage costumes that Karen O of the Yeah Yeah Yeah’s rocks out on stage and in fashion editorials. (These ladies’ collaboration is one of the most influential fashion-music partnerships since Vivienne Westwood dressed the Sex Pistols). Christian Joy has created two prints for the case—and they’re only available at AHAlife.

Called Monster Face (the large print on the front of the case) and Bug Monster (the smaller print on the back of the cases), these striking prints, available in black and pink on a white background and pale green on a black background, were inspired by monsters and Native American and Japanese art. The designs were created in collaboration with artist Jason Grisell (AKA Mr. Joy), and were made from cut out construction paper, then printed with eco-friendly inks. Bold and graphic, they turn a useful tool into a portable work of art.
