When the iPhone first came out, a fashion editor friend pronounced it a “bijou.” Years later, we’re still enamored of its sleek stylishness, but its ubiquity has chipped away at that initial preciousness. Adding a cover seemed like an easy fix, but it had to be something that was as chic as the iPhone itself. So we were delighted to come across these embossed deerskin leather covers from Japan's Otsuriki designed by Maruwakaya. Created using traditional Japanese techniques from the Edo period and decorated with heraldic emblems known as kamon, which were used to identify aristocratic families, they’re both subtle and sophisticated.

Carrying through the subtle and sophisticated theme is the wood box that the leather cases come in—they’re undecorated save for the name of the manufacturer, which is burned into the wood.
