The Barlow, or lambsfoot, blade has a straight top and an angled tip which makes it ideal for start-and-stop carving. Made by a renowned cutlery company that has been in operation since 1764, the knife is hand-assembled with brass linings and brass pins, and completed with an extra long nickel bolster. The rosewood handle is richly hued, with variegated shades and pronounced veining. Rosewood is named for the smell of roses that is emitted from freshly chopped timber.
Keep the knife clean and dry. Clean knife by applying mineral oil and scrubbing crevices with a soft brush. Remember to keep your knife sharpened: a dull blade can be more dangerous than a properly maintained one.
Registered in 1764, knife manufacturer Joseph Rodgers has served under five successive monarchies, from its founding in the 18th century to the early 20th century: George IV, William IV, Queen Victoria, Edward II and George V. To this day, Joseph Rodgers' knives continue to be made in Sheffield, England, a city renowned for being one of the world’s most respected steel works centers.
