This ceramic baker provides yet another option for apple season: the baked apple. The dish features a small cone in the center for the cored apple. Add your variation of favorite spices, dried fruit, sugar, maple syrup and butter for a delicious baked apple. The cone in the center of each apple baker ensures that the fruit cooks thoroughly and evenly. For a variation of the baked apple, try with pears or persimmons.
Core apple and place it on the cone of the baker. Add your choice of nuts, raisins, spices or sugar and bake in a 350-degree oven until softened.
Emerson Creek Pottery is named for the creek that runs through the former Emerson farm in the foothills of the Blue Ridge Mountains of Virginia. It was originally owned by James Emerson, uncle to famed philosopher and writer Ralph Waldo Emerson. In 1825, blacksmith Silas Wade acquired the land and built a two-room, two-story log cabin, now the headquarters of Emerson Creek Pottery. The clay for their handcrafted ceramics is formed of clay made onsite. Each piece is handmade, hand-painted and fired in a gas kiln.
