Simplify the campfire process with this cedar fire starter kit, which includes eight cedar and paraffin (a highly flammable wax distilled from petroleum) tablets as well as nine cedar kindling sticks. Handmade by a company that designs and hand-carves canoe paddles, the cedar for the firestarter tablets and kindling sticks is sourced from leftover material and scraps from the workshop.
To use the cedar and paraffin firestarters, tear loose a bit of the outer edge of one tablet. Strike a match, light the loss edge and enjoy 10-15 minutes of continuous flame. For tips on how to start, maintain and put out a campfire, see our Field Notes: Campfire 101 Note: Kit does not include matches.
Cousins Zak Fellman and Todd Randall grew up in Minnesota with a woodworking grandfather that built his own canoe. This heritage inspired their current canoe paddle company. Nothing goes to waste in the workshop - their fire starter kits are created from shavings and scraps collected from the hand-carved canoe process.
