why this product

In the late 19th-century, Frenchman Auguste Ponsot traveled to Armenia, where he observed the practice of burning tree resin as a room deodorizer in Armenian households. Teaming with the French pharmacist Henri Rivier back in Paris, they discovered that dissolving the resin in alcohol created a permeating, long-lasting aroma. Myrrh, incense and vanilla enhance the woodsy smell of the tree resin and add more layers to the fragrance. Each paper strip burns for about 2-5 minutes, and then slowly infuses the room with a warm, welcoming scent. The incense also acts as an air freshener and neutralizer after cooking a meal or for ridding your home of pungent pet smells.

use & care

Use these paper air fresheners to clear the air in the kitchen and bathroom, or anytime you wish to create a warm, welcoming aroma in any room. Tear out a single strip of paper according to the perforations and fold it accordion-style, creating 5-7 segments. Light one end and quickly blow it out, placing the strip on a heat-resistant dish or surface to allow it to burn slowly. The paper will burn for about 2-5 minutes and the scent should last about 24-48 hours, depending on the size of the room. A strip of paper may also be tucked into your favorite old book to ward off mustiness, or in your sock drawer for a pleasant smell.

production & design

These paper air fresheners have been made in Paris since 1885. The production involves several stages, including preparing the aromatic bath, soaking the paper in alcohol and saline and drying it in an oven. When ready, the prepared papers are perforated into strips and assembled into booklets. Out of respect for the environment, no artificial materials or chemicals are used. The Armenian blotting paper that serves as the basis for the air freshener is certified by the FSC (Forest Stewardship Council), an independent international organization that acts to maintain responsible forest management worldwide.
