In 1928, the distinguished and decorated Admiral Richard E. Byrd chose these leather dressings as the official protector and sealant for his team’s leather gear during their historical expedition into Central Antarctica, in which the Antarctic Plateau was first observed and photographed. From moderate to extreme conditions, this blended wax paste will keep your leather soft and strong. The formula cleans, conditions, preserves and weatherproofs all smooth, natural-tanned leathers, including chrome- and vegetable-tanned skins.
To apply, first clean the leather by wiping it down with a sponge and clean water. While the leather is still damp, use a soft lint-free cloth to dab a small amount of dressing to the leather. Using a circular motion, work the dressing into the leather. To achieve a uniform appearance, repeat this process on all surfaces of the leather item. When finished, the leather will appear to have a slight sheen. Buff the leather vigorously with a clean cloth to melt the wax and create a shine. The neutral dressing can be used on any color natural tanned leather except for white. The brown is suitable for russet brown to light tan shades. Black will accommodate most shades of black leathers.
In 1902, founder Phil Pecard created his leather oils and dressings to protect the expensive leather boots of Wisconsin lumberjacks. With its simple but factual motto, “Never Leak,” the formula soon gained popularity with factory workers, hunters and anyone who had to put leather gear through punishing conditions. The leather dressings and oils were eventually sought out as the official leather protector on Admiral Richard E. Byrd’s historical Antarctic journey of 1928. The company continues to be run as a small family business, and all the products are labeled and packaged by hand with care.
