Japan has a thriving bicycle culture, both on its bustling city streets and along its quiet countryside paths and winding mountain roads. It’s no surprise that a nation populated with over 127 million people and 72.5 million bicycles should be the country of origin for some of the most classic cycling accessories. This brass bicycle bell was first released in 1974 in Tokyo, Japan, and remains in popular use the world over. When the spring-loaded lever is pulled back and released, it strikes the polished dome to create a bright, distinct tone that will carry with ease through the din of traffic and herald your approach to cars, pedestrians, and other cyclists.
The bell attaches onto bicycle handlebars using a chrome plated clamp and bolt, which can be easily tightened down using a standard Phillips head screwdriver. While in transit, simply pull back the lever with your forefinger, release, and enjoy the clear, classic tone that is produced. Brass is rust-proof, but the bell will change in color and develop a unique, matte patina over time. If preferred, the bell can be polished back to its original shine.
This Tokyo-based company has been designing a complete line of bicycles and accompanying products since its founding in 1950. With its simple and functional design, their brass bicycle bell has achieved the status of one of the most popular models in Japan as well as around the world.
